Dr. Lawrence Lo’s successful master’s defense

Congratulations to former CHES fellow Dr. Lawrence Lo for successfully defending his master’s thesis, “Medical Trainees’ understanding of directed questioning by their clinical supervisors”. The presentation marked his completion of the Master of Health Professions Education Canada program, with a degree from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Dr. Paris Ingledew’s successful master’s defense

CHES is delighted to announce former CHES fellow Dr. Paris-Ann Ingledew successfully defended her master’s thesis, “Navigating the Internet to improve physician and patient collaboration”, earning her Master of Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Mercedes Chan is the first UBC graduate of the MHPE program

Congratulations Dr. Mercedes Chan for being the first UBC graduate of the MHPE-Canada program! Dr. Chan belongs to the first cohort of the MHPE-Canada program, a course delivered by UBC and WU faculty, resulting in a Master of Health Professions Education from Maastricht University. Dr. Chan successfully defended her master’s thesis on Aug 14. She is currently spending the summer working as a Pediatric Rheumatologist at BC Children’s Hospital, after which she’ll begin her position as Assistant Professor, Pediatric Rheumatologist & Clinical Instructor, Department of Pediatrics, University of Alberta.

Cynthia Min’s Impact Grant

Congratulations Cynthia Min (PhD student) for earning a $2975 AMS Impact Grant! The grants are part of a new initiative that fund UBC students conducting research that fosters knowledge and understanding of post-secondary matters affecting UBC Vancouver’s community. Her project, titled ‘I Thought I was Doing So Well’: Understanding the Mechanisms Underlying Misalignment Between Self-Assessment and External Assessment, was selected for its potential to lead to actionable items that could be used to improve students’ academic experience.

Dr. Georges Bordage’s MCC Louis Levasseaur Award

Congratulations to upcoming Visiting Scholar, Dr. Georges Bordage, for being named this year’s recipient of the Medical Council of Canada’s Louis Levasseaur Award! The award recognizes a person whose work has contributed in an extraordinary manner to the MCC’s commitment to providing the highest level of medical care for Canadians through excellence in physician evaluation. He will be accepting the award in Ottawa on September 14, 2014 shortly after his visit to the Centre!
