Combat Medical Technician Class 1
32 Engineer Regiment
British Army

Dates of Visit: June 17 – 21, 2019

Purpose of Visit

During this visit to CHES, Katey would like to meet with educators and researchers within the CHES community to discuss using comics to teach non-professionally qualified healthcare workers. Education through narrative, visual imagery and other ideas gratefully sought!

Lance Corporal Katey Murray is a Combat Medical Technician (CMT) in the British Army. She studied Contemporary Fine Art at university and worked in hospitality at St Lukes Hospice in Sheffield before joining the British Army.

Since joining the Army Katey has deployed on various regimental and NATO exercises in the UK and Germany where she practiced primary healthcare and trauma in the field. On promotion to LCpl she was attached to 32 Engineer Regiment in North Yorkshire and deployed to South Sudan with the UN peace keeping mission.

Katey is interested in exploring how comics can be used in medical education of health workers to develop a deeper understanding of complex medical scenarios.
