PhD Candidate, School of Kinesiology,
University of British Columbia

Dates of Visit: April 24 – 28, 2023

Biography

Aisha is interested in developing her understanding of and reading in health professions education, having intersected with the field during her ongoing research about the history of Kinesiology and Physiotherapy. She would like to gain greater exposure to the research being undertaken at CHES and find fruitful areas of convergence and development. She is specifically interested in the role that boundary-drawing plays in the creation and legitimization of health professions, as well as the resonances this has for their education systems.

Purpose of Visit

Aisha is a 4th year PhD student in the School of Kinesiology at UBC, with research interests in the history, philosophy, and sociology of science, and science education. Her PhD research considers how body classification systems were used throughout the 20th century (and into the 21st) to ‘make up’ people, to foster specific understandings of human evolution and variation, and often to establish discriminatory beliefs about race and gender. She has a research specialization in the Science and Technology Studies program at UBC, and has participated in projects pertaining to inter- and transdisciplinary education.
