Biography

Dr. Mercedes Chan is a pediatric rheumatologist at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She obtained her medical degree at the University of Hong Kong followed by a general pediatrics residency at the University of Saskatchewan, a pediatric rheumatology fellowship at UBC and a Master’s of Health Professions Education at Maastricht University. She is also a graduate of the CHES Clinical Educator Fellowship program. Most recently, Dr. Chan has undergone training to become an organizational coach.

Dr. Chan is passionate about raising the profile of pediatric rheumatology and improving access to care for children with rheumatic disease worldwide through medical education. Her clinical interests include teaching around pediatric musculoskeletal examination skills; global health; and the social determinants of health. Her medical education interests center on professional identity formation in doctors, the medical humanities, and skills critical to the transition from training to practice.

Purpose of Visit

During this visit to CHES, Dr. Chan will be meeting with individual members of the CHES community to discuss their research ideas, offer advice, and explore areas of joint interest.
