Purpose of Visit

During this visit to CHES, Dr. McBain will be meeting with educators and researchers within the CHES community to further discuss medical education: humanities and the patient as teacher, assessing competence of students in primary care clinical examination skills and health services evaluation and quality of care.

Biography

Dr. Lynn McBain graduated from medical school at Dalhousie University in Canada and emigrated to New Zealand to work in General Practice in the late 1980’s. She continues active general practice as a partner at Brooklyn Medical Centre.

Dr. McBain has a strong interest in clinical governance.She is a Director and Deputy Chair of Compass Health (the largest Primary Health Organization in the lower North Island) and Chairs the Compass Clinical Quality Board, as well as the regional Radiology Oversight Committee and regional Laboratory Oversight Advisory Group. She also applies her professional expertise as the Chair of Impairment Committees for the NZ Teacher’s Council and member of Professional Conduct Committees for the NZ Medical Council. In 2011 she was awarded the honour of Distinguished Fellowship of the Royal NZ College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP). In her off-time, she enjoys outdoor activities, such as walking, tramping, and orienteering.
