Purpose of Visit

During their visit, Professor Yusuf Ali and Jennifer Cleland will meet with members of the CHES community and to discuss potential collaborative projects that will strengthen inter-institutional partnerships.

Biography

Jennifer (Jen) is an occupational and clinical psychologist who found her home in medical education approximately 20 years ago. She established the UK’s Centre for Healthcare Education Research and Innovation (CHERI) at the University of Aberdeen, and latterly was also Director of the Scottish Medical Education Research Consortium (2015-2020). She juggled these day jobs with chairing ASME (2013-2018) and the AMEE Research Committee (2014-2019). She is now a member of AMEE’s Executive. She holds editorial roles with Medical Education and Advances in Health Sciences Education. Jen currently works at LKCMedicine, Singapore as Vice-Dean (Education) and Director of the health professions education research (HPER) unit.

Jen is known internationally for her research in the areas of student selection and increasing diversity in medicine, performance and assessment, career progression and choices in medicine. Her research is characterized by inter-disciplinarity, methodological flexibility and international collaborations. She is co-editor with Steve Durning of Researching Medical Education, used as a core text for MHPE globally (2nd edition out Nov 2022).

Her contribution to HPER has been recognised by numerous Visiting/Adjunct Prof appointments, Honorary Fellowships and awards.
