Ingrid Price, PhD

Scholar

Dr. Ingrid Price is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC.  She holds PhD in Psychology, trained in motivational interviewing and is a certified professional coach.  She works as an educator, facilitator and coach in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine at UBC.  Ingrid also has extensive experience in faculty development, a passion she discovered during her years as a graduate student.  Ingrid is incredibly curious about positive behaviour change – what it takes for people to change, and what keeps people from changing; this began with her PhD work on eating disorders and substance use disorders.  From this work she learned that we are all products of our socialization and environment; however, this does not mean we cannot affect the change we desire.  Ingrid believes strongly in the fundamental human need for connection through kindness and compassion and views this as an essential aspect of our wellbeing.  As an educator, she works with health professions students to challenge them to be compassionate care providers who are able to care for themselves as well as those they serve.  As a coach, she works with health professionals at all levels (student, resident, practitioner) to strengthen their identity and wellbeing as a means to enhance their efficacy and sustainability as care providers.  Her scholarly work also focuses on these areas.  Ingrid has great respect for the role and responsibility of health care practitioners.  For her, serving this community is truly an honour.
