Purpose of Visit

During her 6 month sabbatical leave visit at CHES, Dr. Harrison hopes to explore areas of medical education related to her interests in quality clinical supervision, patients as teachers, and effective evaluation in the clinical context.

Biography

Dr. Joanne Harrison is a Paediatric Respiratory Physician at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne. She undertook her training in Glasgow, UK and has spent time in London, Vancouver, Sydney and Melbourne. Her clinical research interests include preschool lung function testing and novel lung function techniques such as the Forced Oscillation and Multiple Breath Washout Techniques. She has a passion for providing high quality care to children and their families.

Joanne is the Cystic Fibrosis Centre Director at RCH and is the clinical lead for children with airway problems. She is a steering committee member of the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative, an international quality improvement initiative whose mission is to partner with hospitals and providers around the world to improve the care and quality of life for tracheostomy patients. She has a long-standing interest in medical education and is currently enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching at Melbourne University, and is the paediatric representative on the Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Specialist Training Committee of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.
