Assistant Professor of Teaching,
Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Dates of Visit: May 29 – June 2, 2023

Biography

Dr. Eden Fussner-Dupas just recently joined the Faculty of Medicine as a teaching stream assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology here at UBC, Point Grey Campus. She received her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto where she studied chromatin structure in situ and was involved in producing a new structural model of genome organization. Dr. Fussner-Dupas went on to do two postdoctoral fellowships under the supervision of Dr. Anthony Pawson and Dr. Ran Kafri and focused her research efforts on understanding the role of protein phase separation as a driving force of nuclear body formation and as a regulator of cell signalling. Dr. Fussner-Dupas is now focusing on two educational leadership projects: 1) Finding ways to integrate more mentorship and developing ways to help junior scholars foster their sense of scientific identity and 2) Making syllabus design modifications to improve the mental health and wellness of our undergraduate students.

Purpose of Visit

During this visit, Dr. Fussner-Dupas is looking forward to having the opportunity to meet with members of CHES and to learn more about the various approaches to SoTL and is keen to meet collaborators and share ideas for making the undergraduate student experience here at UBC even better.
