Juliana Freitas completed in 2019 her PhD in Nursing from the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil, with a five-month doctoral stay at Case Western Reserve University. Since 2010, Dr. Freitas has been studying quality and safety in health care. In her master’s degree, she identified important gaps in quality and safety of nursing care in a Brazilian teaching hospital, which motivated her to investigate the nursing education. In her PhD, she cross-culturally adapted for use in Brazil an instrument to assess student’s perceptions of the extent to which they had acquired the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential to the development of quality and safety competencies during prelicensure programs. Dr. Freitas has a strong interest in innovative ways to teach and learn health sciences. She believes that health professions education is the pathway to improve health care all over the world.
