Purpose of Visit

During her visit to CHES, Dr. Cheng will be meeting with educators and researchers within the CHES community. She hopes to discuss her ideas and methodology of how to integrate and evaluate more effective assessment methods within the pediatric residency program, in light of the future demands of Competence by Design, and explore areas of joint interest.

Biography

Dr. Sylvia Cheng is a Clinical Assistant Professor who joined the Division of Hematology/Oncology/BMT at BC Children’s Hospital in July 2014. Dr. Cheng received her medical degree from the University of British Columbia followed by her Postgraduate Residency Training in Pediatrics and Subspecialty Training in Peds Heme/Onc at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. She also completed a master’s degree in the Health Practitioner Teacher Education program from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto focusing on assessment in postgraduate medical education.

Dr. Cheng is currently an active member in the UBC Pediatrics Resident Training Committee as the chair of the Assessment and Evaluation Committee. She is very interested in the role and transformation of assessment for postgraduate trainees, in the context of Competence by Design initiative being implemented across Canada.
