Judith L Bowen, MD, PhD
Professor and Associate Dean for Curriculum
Elson S Floyd College of Medicine, Washington State University
Dates of Visit: May 10 – 12, 2022
Purpose of Visit
During her visit, Dr. Bowen will connect with members of the CHES community to engage in scholarly conversations about the intersection of medical student clinical reasoning and curriculum design, including assessment of reasoning trajectories. She is particularly interest in conversations about clinical reasoning as a socially mediated activity.
Dr. Bowen is a general internist and lifelong clinical teacher. Serendipity and luck provided her with opportunities to learn about the science of learning (University of Washington Teaching Scholars Program), quality improvement (Institute for Healthcare Improvement), and interprofessional education redesign (US Veterans Affairs). She completed her PhD in Medical Education at the UCSF-University of Utrecht doctoral program in 2019, studying the impact of discontinuity of patient care on clinical reasoning. Dr. Bowen joined the WSU College of Medicine in 2019 as the Associate Dean for Curriculum.
