CHES Director

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Director, Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES). Our current CHES Director, Dr. Ian Scott, has served in the role since 2015, with his second term ending in June 2025.

Reporting jointly to the Vice Dean, Research, FoM and the Vice Dean, Education, FoM, the Director of CHES is the academic lead in providing strategic leadership and support to the Centre. CHES’ mandate is to build educational, scholarly, and leadership capacity in the health professions, across British Columbia and beyond, through supporting the mentorship of individuals and fostering a culture of collaboration and scholarly thinking. Through collaborative leadership, the Director supports CHES’ efforts to shape theories and activities of learning in the health professions. The incumbent works closely with the Vice Dean, Education and the Vice Dean, Research to ensure alignment with the strategic plans of the Faculty of Medicine and of UBC and to ensure that academic and research initiatives at CHES are staffed, resourced, and managed to maximize health professions teaching, research, and leadership offered by and supported by the Centre.

The position is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to UBC who currently holds a faculty appointment at UBC or is eligible to hold an appropriate faculty position in an academic unit.
