The Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES) is a research and education centre that strives to enhance the health of people and populations by supporting the educational practices of health professionals. We do this by working to understand how healthcare providers learn and how health professions educators teach – through conducting research, supporting educational practices, building capacity, and supporting and training leaders. In 2024, CHES was pleased to celebrate many significant accomplishments and activities together with our community, including:
- The launch of the inaugural Indigenous Stream of the Clinical Educator Fellowship Program, with two Indigenous Fellows beginning in the program in July 2024. CHES is honoured to partner along with the Fellows, together with the support of Indigenous Elders and Mentors, to co-construct a vision of an Indigenous approach to educational leadership.
- The recruitment of two Scientists to CHES to boost the faculty complement and capacity of CHES, and provide vital continuity to the service our unit provides through educational programs and consultations with faculty.
- Continued outreach and community building initiatives, through events like the CHES Celebration of Scholarship that continues to bring together the local health professions education community. CHES was also pleased to launch its Early Career Visiting Scholars Program, which aims to provide opportunities for early career scholars in HPE from underrepresented communities to visit CHES and engage together in scholarship.
