Visiting Scholar

Felipe Sánchez B.

Lecturer in Educational Psychology,
Universidad Católica del Maule, Chile
PhD in Educational Research, Lancaster University

Date of Visit: December 8 & 10, 2026

Purpose of Visit

In this visit, Felipe is driven by his institution’s growing focus on academic development and the strengthening of teaching and learning practices and research in health and medical education. In particular, current discussions concern the growing investment in teaching infrastructure, including both faculty development and the institutional policy needed to support it. We are interested in how these initiatives can be integrated into broader institutional strategies, including developmental pathways for teaching staff and the systematic integration of teaching approaches across curricula.

Biography

Felipe is a Psychologist and MSc in Educational Psychology at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and PhD in Educational Research at Lancaster University, UK. He is currently a Lecturer in Educational Psychology at Universidad Católica del Maule, Chile. He researches in educational psychology; learning experiences; emotionality and affection; higher education; academic development; arts and science; and art-based qualitative methodologies.

Currently, he is interested in Higher Education Faculty/Academic Development, particularly how university academics construct the “sense” of researching their own teaching amid tensions between teaching, disciplinary research, and performance metrics. He is interested in exploring biographical, identity, emotional, and social drivers that enable academics to engage in Faculty Development and researching their own teaching practices. On top of this, his interest orient towards meta-disciplinary discussion in Higher Education, looking at how the research field develops.
