Biography

Pim Teunissen uses his clinical experience to inform his research and vice versa. Since 2020 he is also leading Maastricht University’s School of Health Professions Education as their Scientific Director. In his research, he focuses on how education supports learning from work. He does this by connecting concepts and methodologies from different scientific disciplines to pertinent issues within health professions education. His research activities span the continuum from medical students to new consultants in a variety of specialties and in allied health professional. He has published more than 150 scientific articles and book chapters related to workplace learning in healthcare. As a doctoral supervisor, he has contributed to the completion of 21 PhD’s. He has recently led a revision of the Dutch national postgraduate curriculum for Obstetrics and Gynecology aiming to align it with research on workplace learning and healthcare practice.

Purpose of Visit

Dr. Teunissen is looking forward to returning to CHES, where also spent 8 months in 2013/2014. During his visit to CHES, Dr. Teunissen will connect with individual members of the CHES community that he is working together with in various projects. He also looks forward to meeting other CHES members to discuss research ideas, exchange experiences of working in clinical practice as well as in health professions education research, offer advice, and explore areas of joint interest.
