Paediatric Neurology – Chief Resident
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)

Date of Visit: October 27 – November 7, 2025

Biography

Dr. Frédérique Ouellet is the Chief Resident in Pediatric Neurology at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. Originally from Montréal, she completed her medical degree at the Université de Sherbrooke in Québec. Her clinical interests center on fetal and neonatal neurology, and she will pursue a fellowship in this subspecialty at BC Children’s Hospital beginning in July 2026.

Alongside her clinical training, Dr. Ouellet has developed strong academic interests in health professions education and quality improvement (QI). She completed a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Dundee in Scotland, where her dissertation explored continuing professional development and collaborative learning models such as Project ECHO. She is currently completing a Master’s in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the University of Toronto, focusing on psychological harm in healthcare workers, particularly in the context of patient safety events and second victim syndrome.

Her scholarly and clinical work converge on improving neurological care for neonates and children through system-level change, education for non-neurologists, and advancing understanding of the second victim phenomenon in medicine.

Purpose of Visit

The objective of my two-week mini-sabbatical at CHES is to explore opportunities and potential research topics to pursue during my clinical fellowship in Vancouver, while also taking a dedicated pause to reflect on my next steps in my academic journey.
