Biography

Maria Elvén is a PhD candidate and a lecturer at Mälardalen University in Sweden, Division of Physical Therapy. Her research focuses on the integration of behavioral considerations in clinical reasoning for the purpose of changing or maintaining clients’ health-related behaviors to improve their health and well-being. Her developing theoretical model suggests that such reasoning may involve considerations of bio-psychosocial factors, the use of functional behavioral analyses and the selection of behavior change strategies in a collaborative and context-dependent process. In the context of this work, she has developed and evaluated a web-based instrument to measure such reasoning. In the course of her PhD studies, Maria has been working with Professor Elizabeth Dean at the Department of Physical Therapy, UBC, who is one of her thesis supervisors.
