Purpose of Visit

During his visit Dr. Camp hopes to discuss and explore possibilities for future research in the area of learning and practice strategies with members of CHES and to discuss and exchange ideas about success factors in educational programs.

Biography

Dr. Gino Camp is Associate Professor at the Welten Institute of the Open University of the Netherlands, which is a research center for learning, teaching, and technology. He obtained a Master’s degree in educational psychology at Maastricht University and completed his Ph.D. in 2006 at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

His research theme is improving the efficiency and effectiveness of learning in educational practice with a focus on the individual learner and teacher. With his research group he investigates the effect of different learning and practice strategies stemming from research in cognitive psychology on educational practice. Examples of these strategies are retrieval practice, distributed practice, and metacognitive strategies.

Apart from his research Dr. Camp was Director of Studies of different Bachelor and Master’s programs in Psychology, Educational Sciences and Pedagogical Sciences and has experience in setting up successful programs using both problem-based learning and distance learning as didactical models.
