Although COVID-19 led to a substantial disruption of plans for CCME’s visit to Vancouver in 2020, it is still worth using this moment to celebrate the exceptional work done by our education scholarship community over the past year (as reflected in the volume of accepted presentations): UBC faculty, staff, and students were scheduled to deliver 4 workshops, 41 oral presentations, and 27 posters!
If you would like to view the abstracts, please see the Canadian Journal of Medical Education.
In addition, we are thrilled to highlight that Dr. Maria Hubinette’s keynote in a session titled “Humanism in Medicine: How Relationships with Peers and Patients Shape Healthcare” and Dr. Carol Ann Courneya’s keynote in a session titled “Arts and Humanities in Medicine: An Expanding Canadian Tapestry” will be available virtually to CCME delegates starting May 15th.
Unfortunately, many other program highlights will be missed, but remain worthy of acknowledgement:
- Dr. Laura Nimmon was invited to be a panelist during the Early Career Medical Educators Group meeting in a session titled “Navigating Conflict and Collaboration: Learning from Each Other”
- UBC took an active role in planning many of the additional CCME-related activities such as Dr. Brett Schrewe and Dr. Sarah de Leeuw’s leadership of Creating Spaces X
Awards that were scheduled to be delivered at CCME included:
- AFMC Award for Outstanding Contribution to Faculty Development in Canada: Dr. Heather Buckley
- AFMC Charles Boelen International Social Accountability Award: The Network (TUFH) Social Accountability Taskforce (Chaired by Dr. Robert Woollard, Mohammed Elhassan Abdalla, Julian Fisher)
- AFMC May Cohen Equity, Diversity, and Gender Award: Dr. Faisal Khosa
- CAME-ACEM Early Career Medical Educators Group Champion Mentor Award: Dr. Laura Nimmon
