Applications are now open for the 2026 Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE-Canada) and CHES’ Clinical Educator Fellowship Program (CEFP).
The Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES) is holding a session on Wednesday, October 8th from 5:30-7:00pm for the General Stream of both the CEFP and MHPE-Canada, and Wednesday, October 15th for the Indigenous Stream of our CEFP.
Attendees will meet with Dr. Rose Hatala, Director of MHPE-Canada and CEFP; Nathan Katz, current CEFP Fellow; and Janelle Syring, current Lead CEFP and Indigenous Stream Fellow.

Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) Canada
MHPE-Canada is a two-year, part-time, internationally recognized course, giving graduates a research-based master’s degree from Maastricht University.
The objectives of the MHPE program are to provide teachers of health professions, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, dentists, pharmacists and others, with the capacity to implement and improve their educational programs and to conduct education research related to regional and national health priorities. The MHPE-Canada focuses on the acquisition of knowledge and skills relevant for innovative medical and health professions education in Canada.
Within the two-year program, students participate in two sets of three-week long units, taking place on-campus with delivery conducted by faculty members from both UBC and Western University. All other units are distance-based being delivered by faculty at Maastricht University.

Clinical Educator Fellowship Program
CHES is offering opportunities for senior residents (R3-R5), residents in enhanced skills programs (PGY3 Family Medicine), or established clinicians interested in health education scholarship to be a part of the CHES Fellowship program, which has graduated 43 Fellows since its inception. This Fellowship is designed for those interested in developing an academic career as a clinician educator.

Indigenous Stream – Clinical Educator Fellowship Program
CHES has an established, learner-centred Clinical Educator Fellowship Program. The Indigenous Stream is specifically seeking Indigenous applicants to participate in a two-year, full-time, funded position (or four years part-time). This fellowship stream is for any Indigenous physician and Indigenous ally physician interested in developing knowledge and skills as a Clinical Educator.
