Purpose of Visit

During her sabbatical year, Ms. Murphy will focus on 3 main areas:

1) How professionalism is taught in the UBC MPT curriculum, with a goal of redesigning the curriculum.
2) Use of standardised/simulated patients in the MPT program, and their use for the teaching of professionalism.
3) Revitalising the clinical educator workshop curriculum, incorporating new evidence and concepts into the current framework.

Biography

Ms. Sue Murphy is a senior instructor and the Associate Head, Clinical Education in the Department of Physical Therapy. Ms. Murphy’s responsibilities include development and oversight of the clinical education program for MPT students, as well as teaching in the areas of professionalism and professional issues. She has received several awards for teaching (including the Killam Teaching prize and the Faculty of Medicine Distinguished Achievement Award), and runs a very successful series of workshops for clinical educators. Ms. Murphy has presented her work nationally and internationally, and has published in the journals Physiotherapy Canada and Clinical Teacher.
