James Brown, MD

Director of Educational Development, EVGP Training,
Churchill Australia

Dates of Visit: May 22 – 26, 2017

Purpose of Visit

I am looking forward to building relationships with other medical education scholars and to developing ideas through discussions with others. My current focus is on educational theory and on identity development in vocational training.

James Brown has three work roles. He is a family practitioner and supervisor in an Australian rural general practice that hosts medical students, interns and general practice trainees. He is also the director of educational quality improvement for an Australian regional training organisation responsible for a general practice vocational training. As part of this role he leads an educational research program. James is half way through a PhD which is focusing on the supervisory relationship in general practice vocational education. During the time he is at CHES he will be working on a scoping literature review of the use of educational theory to inform work-based learning and teaching in vocational training for general practice. James is married with three adult daughters. He enjoys cycling and alpine ski touring and lives on a small farm.
