Purpose of Visit

During his visit to CHES, Dr. Beier Sloth will be taking part in scientific discussions and broadening his understanding of complementary methodological frameworks and theories in medical education. Specific goals include exploring and building on the Centre’s extensive research on assessment, self-assessment and self-regulation in postgraduate medical education.

Biography

Sigurd Beier Sloth is a PhD fellow at the Center for Health Sciences Education, Faculty of Health, Aarhus University, Denmark. He graduated from medical school at Aarhus University in 2014 and after his residency, began his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Sigurd’s research field of interest is the postgraduate medical education continuum, where he is particularly interested in the use of surgical simulation and skills training. Experiences in his own specialist training, and his work as a teacher and facilitator in simulation and skills training is driving this interest. Sigurd’s PhD project focuses on self-regulated learning and transfer in postgraduate surgical training. He is conducting a randomized comparative study on the effects of two different laparoscopic skills training programs. In this context, he aims to explore the potentials and perceptions of self-regulated training. He investigates facilitators and barriers to the transfer of training and the retention and development of acquired skills.
