Purpose of Visit
During this visit to CHES, Dr. Kaminska will be meeting with educators and researchers within the CHES community to dialogue on current and future medical education interests including: lowcost simulation, active distance learning, teaching and evaluation of medical skills, low-tech games, hightech animatronics, and embodied cognition.
Biography
Dr. Mal Kaminska (BSc, MD, CCFP, MSc) gained her medical degree from the University of Toronto and rural family medicine residency from U of C’s Rural Alberta South Program. She also holds a Master’s of Science in Public Health from The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a U of C Master Teacher certificate. She was the co-chair for the Undergraduate Medical Education Physical Exam course, spearheading the introduction of ultra-sonography. Most recently, Malcontinued her academic and clinical work at the University of Saskatchewan.
In November 2016, she joined as faculty at NMP in Prince George. She is in the midst of pursuing a PhD in medical education in the area of embodied cognition under Dr. Remy Rikers. The common link between her many research interests is the desire to innovate and use
research to investigate changes in learning outcomes and (hopefully) contribute to the theoretical knowledge underlying these phenomena.
